About

This is a Web site not only about selling art, but about dispelling the starving artist myth.

I’m Cory Huff. Nice to meet you. *waves*

I am an actor and storyteller who fell into a career in Internet marketing. In 2004 I discovered search engine marketing and social media. Since then I’ve worked on marketing and software programs for some of the world’s biggest companies.

Why should you care?

In 2009 I started TheAbundantArtist.com (TAA for short) as a way teaching internet marketing to my artist friends who were asking me for help. Since then, I’ve helped dozens of artists go from never sold anything to now selling pieces monthly or weekly. Some of my artist friends and clients have gone on to sell their work for $20,000 or more. I also work with performers – actors, musicians, and others.

I teach artists to dispel the starving artist myth by using the Web to sell art directly to your fans. I don’t teach artists how to get into galleries or museums. Building your own business online can be complimentary to a gallery business, but if you want to go the academic route, you’ll need another resource.

What You’ll Find Here

My goal is to teach artists to be empowered to take charge of their own art business, and to not let others dictate to them whether or not their work is good enough, commercial enough, or fits some pre-determined mold of what an art career should be.

On this site you’ll  find hundreds of free articles, videos, and podcasts designed to help you:

  • Build a Better Artist Website
  • Sell Your Art Online
  • Effectively market with social media
  • Design your own ideal life style
  • Become more business savvy
  • Find the right community that will help you grow as an artist

If you’re looking for the best way to get started with all of this content, join the mailing list and you’ll be sent the free course How to Sell More Art Online in 10 Weeks.

For those artists who ready to get serious about their art business, we offer some advanced training courses and services:

  • Membership in ArtEmpowers.me, a members-only website with in-depth lessons in online marketing. This is where the artists who are truly serious about their work go to get trained in online marketing.
  • Artist Website building. If you want to truly build a long-term business, you need your own website. TAA offers a website installation and coaching service with Done for You Artist Websites.
  • One-on-one coaching via Skype. If you are interested in talking with me directly, the best thing you can do is visit the TAA artist coaching page and book an appointment.

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit TAA. You’ll find a vibrant and fun community of professional artists here. Feel free to read the articles, join the mailing list, and get what you need!

All other inquiries should be directed to the contact page.

What a great website you have. I really like your publicity photo from A Tragedy. It's fun trend that we're starting to see a bit of personality on About pages.

Hi my name is Marc Dupuis Im an artist from montreal Quebec I am so happy that other people believe that it is possible live, and be succesful as an artist.

Thank you Cory For starting a positivity center for people just like me.

I run a program in Denver, it's called the Non-Starving Artist program.
I originated it in 1997.
I declared war on educational systems that do not give artists survival and business data. I have a good journeyman art life . I have good data, to pass on to any artist. See me by Google.
Sincerely,
Bob Ragland-NSA

Desperately seeking artist housing in New York (Manhattan or Brooklyn) as taxes sky rocket here with the rents.
Light and enough space to paint and print
are needed.
Any brilliant places out there?

Hi Julia - have you checked out the artist housing post? http://www.theabundantartist.com/artist-housing-projects/

Hi Cory, I want to share with you something I've found recently. I've join The Unified Tribe. I love the idea of businesses supporting each other, and the heart centeredness of this organization, and I have found it useful to my business. So much so I wrote a blog post about it today. One thing it needs is more artists, healers, and others involved in spiritual awakening. I invite you to check this out. Maybe it will be a tool you'll find useful, too. Blessings, Atmara http://bit.ly/dnCjrk

Hi Cory,

I loved your response to the article on Oregon Live. Left my thoughts on that blog.

Have you heard of the group called Self-Employed Creative Professionals? They've been operating here in Portland for 12 years and are a great resource for creatives of all colors.

Their website is: http://www.secppdx.com

Perhaps this could be a useful resource in your quest to debunk the myth.

Wow Cory!
This is a great endeavor! It's always great to see people using the Internet for good. Good luck with this!

Good to see you here. I didn't know this blog existed! Good luck with it and your mission here. I'll stay tuned!
