I tell you what, there’s nothing that artists can’t do.  Combine that power, creativity, and enthusiasm with a little technology and you get a real force to be reckoned with.  Take, for example, the Royal Opera House in the UK.  They’re doing an entire opera based on Twitter!  If you want to, you can follow them on Twitter and give suggestions for the plot and characters (@youropera).

Then, of course, there’s @natashA on Twitter who is a painter and technology buff who has somehow managed to get the Phoenix, Arizona art and tech community to smash it up and do an awesome event called CreateLive.  All day long, artists will create new work alongside web developers and other technology people who are working on their own neat technology projects.  If you can make it to Arizona, here are 5 Reasons you should visit CreateLive.  If Arizona is too far, that’s okay – they’re going to stream the whole thing online!

I also have to give mention to the NYT article on Rocco Landesman.  I don’t know how long it’s been since a theater producer has been the chair of the National Endowment for the Arts, but it looks like this guy is really going to go to bat for us, and it looks like President Obama understands the serious economic impact that artists can have on the communities where they work.  Rocco Landesman, New Endowment Chairman, Sees Arts as Economic Engine – NYTimes.com.  Artists need to understand how much economic impact they really have when it comes to city revitalization.  Though I am not a fan of public funding of the Arts (I can talk about this another post), this is probably the biggest opportunity that artists have to make the case for government funding.
