Every artist needs five things to sell art online:
1. Really great art. People won’t talk about you or what you do if your work is not exceptional (or they will, but you won’t like what they’re saying).
2. A plan. You need to understand how Internet marketing works and what your next steps are. Having a written plan is imperative.
3. A Web site. If you’re using a poorly constructed site that you built in iWeb or Dreamweaver, you really should get something professional done. Etsy, Imagekind, and Foliotwist are all better alternatives, but will still not give you what you need in order to build a real business.
4. An email list. You’ve probably had patrons tell you that they love your art, but can’t buy it right now, yes? How do you keep in touch with them? You need to get them on your list. Keep in regular contact with your buyers.
5. A social media presence. Art is interactive. It’s emotional. So is social media. They’re a perfect match. A blog, Facebook page, or Twitter account are all good ideas for moving your social media message.
On November 10 at 6 PM Pacific Time, I am hosting a free one hour teleseminar on the five things that every artist needs to sell art online. This teleseminar will be real, useful information. No fluff, I promise. You can receive the information for this teleseminar by signing up for The Abundant Artist email newsletter on the right side of this page.
