If you’re not familiar San Francisco Artist John Kraft, then that’s too bad. John is one savvy artist who has done a fantastic job of making his presence on the Web grow.

John and I recently sat down for a chat (he’s a really nice guy), and I wanted to share the recording of the conversation with all of you.

Some highlights from the interview:

  • John’s favorite way to market his work? Facebook.
  • John engages in a LOT of different kinds of marketing. He rattles off at least 15 different ways that he markets his art.
  • John’s a former engineer. As such, he has a different way of looking at art marketing – without any of the traditional fears that a lot of artists have. Also, he ‘gets’ a lot of the technical stuff.

Let me know what you think!

from a certain perspective - making money - selling art or creating a name are all distractions from a clear focus of creating art - granted there is the art of marketing - the art of selling - even every single business is an art in itself - but that is the choice of each individual artist - to decide and commit to to level that they wish to of creating their fine art if that is what you are doing -

Thanks to the both of you for doing this interview . I found it by googling John Kraft Imagekind Facebook ad, and came via a link John had placed on the forum. John always had great advice and insight on the Imagekind forums about art marketing and FB . I was searching for some particular advice I remember him giving about how he uses FB ads. Still have not found it on the IK forums but this interview was very inspiring and worth the sidetrip! He somewhat covered it here when he described in general how he uses the FB ads. The advice on IK was specific details of how he uses FB ads. Plenty of food for thought here though and new ideas. Many thanks! ...On with my search for details on the ads.

Hi Catinka - there's lots more in-depth information on Facebook ads and other ways to market your art if you sign up for the newsletter (free) or if you sign up for the Abundant Artist Community, which is still only $15 per month!

I certainly enjoy following John's work. He is very approachable with other artists. So many great points in the interview that I am sure will help a lot of artists not be so intimidated with marketing strategies on their own. Thank you!

Thanks for the comment and thanks for stopping by the site Meilena. Love your work!

Thanks John & Cory, I don't know how anyone can walk away from this interview without gaining a real sense of improving their own marketing skills. Two very informative and skilled engineers of their trades.

Thanks for this! Great interview with tons of insight.

This was great. It is addressing a lot of the questions I had about open / limited editions, gallery vs online sales. Very good. I'm going to check out John's site and take more notes! btw, I'm glad I found this site as well.

I was at Imagekind and John linked to this post but I cannot get the interview to play. I would still like to hear it. Let me know if there is another way to hear it.

I like your sight. I'll go explore some more.

You'll have to make sure your web browser has the latest Flash player.

Great interview! Thank you!

I Love how John Describes the absurdity of how new eyes can see your art work while on line playing an interactive game. Social media is excellent in expanding your audience . Galleries are wonderful for foot tragic but social media broadens your depth and allows your work to be seen by the masses. Building collectors has to do with establishing a rapport with individuals and maintaining a connection with them over the longevity of your career as an artist. Thank you sharing your knowledge with the world. You have a wonderful gift and amazing talent. Yeah John.

Excellent interview, love his art work!!!

Bummer, I cannot see the interview. The player shows up as a black line. Am I the only one?

Hi Annie,

It could have to do with your browser. If you are running an old version of Internet Explorer or if you don't have a current Flash plugin, then you might not be able to listen to the recording.

Very well done interview. Cory, thank you for hosting it, and John, thank you for sharing your experience.
